This week I received an email congratulating me on my nomination for a ‘Top Writing Blog Award’.
Woo-hoo, eh? Great. I’d never heard of the organisation that nominated me though, so I Googled them. They seem to be a broker for online education. So far they have a dozen different categories of these “awards”
Top 115 parenting blogs!
Top 70 foodie blogs!
Top 75 music and arts enthusiasts!
Top 50 Wellness Guru!
In total 735 blogs have won their awards…and that’s 735 blogs who have put this website’s award badge and *link* to their site on their blog. Can you imagine how that boosts their search engine rankings?
This feels like an opportunity to take up space on my own blog with a badge that means nothing to most people and provides a link to a site I don’t endorse.
Right then…

thanks for joining the dots on this one, Claire. I’ll have a sad 30 secs relishing that “mine” was a top writing one (rather than, say, top sweeper of paths or duster of flimsy ornaments) and delete the e-mail.
I know, it’s rotten! But I’ve since been amusing myself by typing them an email suggesting some other categories that I’d like to nominate my friends’ blogs for (I see you have too). They are definitely missing a ‘Top 200 Garden-Hoe Lovers Blogs’ category, and a ‘Top 75 Pie-Eating Cowgirls Blogs’, before I even get started on the ‘Top 500 SEO marketing blogs’…
WHAT? You mean that my blog isn’t the only one nominated for this prestigious award? Well I never…
You’re in good company though!
The very best
Hey, I hereby nominate you for the A Salted Best Blog of the Year – all you need do to accept this awesome award is publicise A Salted as much as you can. Congratulations!
A Salted is really good. And funny. And good, did I mention that? And anyway Sara sells books so what’s not to like? Did I mention funny?
That’s the way!
I was just about to nominate you for a Versatile Bloggers Award, sent to me by a blogger I do follow and would endorse. Rather silly I realise, but I swear I’ve never done chain letters in my life! Maybe not? Best, cat
Hi Catherine, how kind of you! It’s not really the same thing at all, I had the VBA passed onto me once already and I did reply to it. I appreciate it when other bloggers pass on genuine compliments. The award I mention above is not from a blogger, but from a business looking to create many link backs to their commercial website, organised by an internet marketing/SEO company they pay to do so. It’s cynical and I disapprove! xxx
Here it is! http://www.claire-king.com/2011/05/26/versatility-baby/
lovely! must catch up with those you nominated. I’m rather slow with blogging as it is so time-consuming, but good to have the info. Merci! ciao cat
*sigh* I thought I was the Top Writing Blog…
Maybe you are, you just don’t need ‘them’ to tell you…xxx
You mean I wasn’t the only Top Writing Blog??! Well. That does surprise me.
